Problems defining python path

Agustin Lobo
I've installed (with make altinstall) python2.6
which is now in /usr/local/bin

I've tried both /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/bin/python2.6 as "python
Home directory"

but still get

"An installation of Python 26 could not be located on the library
loading path. Please ensure your Python installation is properly
configured."

in the scripting window

I also have  "/home/alobo/Opticks/user.py" as "Python User
Configuration File Location"
but actually have not that file. There is actually no mention to this file in
http://opticks.org/confluence/display/opticksExt/Python+Scripting

Any help appreciated,

Thanks
Agus

RE: [Opticks-users] Problems defining python path

The python home directory is the equivalent of $PYTHONHOME and thus should probably be set to /usr/local
You can also do an ldd on the python so's in PlugIns to ensure they are finding the python libs.

Re: Problems defining python path

Agustin Lobo
As far as I understand, PYTHONPATH should be the directory of
the standard Python libraries
(http://docs.python.org/2/using/cmdline.html#envvar-PYTHONHOME)
thus /usr/local/lib/python2.6 in my case.

I've set this directory in Opticks Python Home Directory
and even fired OPticks in this way:

$ export PYTHONPATH=/usr/local/lib/python2.6
$ /opt/Opticks/Bin/Opticks

but still get the error in the Scripting window.

Re: Problems defining python path

Agustin Lobo
Following your advice on ldd gives a hint:

$ ldd Py*
PythonEngine26.so:
    linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x00007fffb5bfe000)
    libpython2.6.so.1.0 => not found

I did compile python2.6.8 myself, but libpython2.6.so.1.0 did not get built.
Thus my problem is with the python installation, not with Opticks

Agus

Re: Problems defining python path

Agustin Lobo
Problem solved by installing python2.6 and libpython2.6
from PPA: https://launchpad.net/~fkrull/+archive/deadsnakes

ref.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/125342/how-can-i-install-python-2-6-on-12-04

libpython2.6.so.1.0 is now in /usr/lib

Python Home Location in Opticks with this installation must be /usr
Is this not actually a (minor) bug? I mean, it should be /usr/lib, but
that would not work.

Finally, I'd appreciate if anybody could contact me to explain why
downloading the source code for python26 and installing with
./configure
make
make altinstall

did not create the library libpython2.6.so.1.0 .

Thanks!

Agus

Re: Problems defining python path

Is /usr/local/lib in your ld.so path? Did you run ldconfig after
installing the lib there? Either would prevent opticks from locating the
lib since it's in a different location on the opticks build machine (so
rpath won't match).

As for the so not being build, it's possible the default config for
python 2.6 builds is to only build static libs (unlikely) or it may be
calling the lib something else (libpython.so or something like that).
